Are you ready to make 2016 your best yet?

If the answer is YES – are you clear on what you want in 2016?

It’s fairly easy to start the new year full of positivity, enthusiasm and optimism. But in order to maintain your momentum through the year, you need to set powerful, clear, well-defined goals. we are fast approaching February already, and may I ask you – have you yet answered these simple questions…..

What do you want to achieve?

What do you want to experience?

How do you want to feel?

Who do you want to be?

The first step to getting what you want out of life is to decide exactly what you want. SIMPLE!?

One of primary reasons most people don’t get what they want is that they aren’t clear about what they want.

Others do recognise what they want, but when they can’t see how they can achieve it, they dismiss their goals unattainable. This is simply self-sabotage. Do you ever sabotage your thoughts in this way?

After decades of research into how the human brain works, scientists now know that for our brains to figure out how to get what we want, we must first decide what we want. Once we lock-in to this then our desires / ambitions, our mind and the actual universe can help to align them all and make our dreams a reality.

So let’s get started. to make 2016 your best yet!

1. Dream Big

We must start the process by getting clear about what we want. So, what do you want? To create a balanced and successful life, write down a minimum of three goals in each of the following areas:

Health Goals

Career / Business Goals

Leisure / Family Time

Relationship Goals

Financial Goals

Personal Development / Growth

If you have more goals than this, that’s fine write them all down! On the other hand, if writing down eighteen goals seems like a lot, remember that we can have a mix of long and short-term goals. For example, in the health area, you may have a short-term goal of paying off losing 5 kilo, as well as a long-term goal of running a marathon for your chosen charity perhaps? You want to keep both goals present in your mind, even though you’ll be of course working more actively on the short-term goal initially. Goal setting is key to making this year YOURS! 2. Think & Believe BIG

When setting our goals, it’s important to include a few that will make us stretch and grow in order to achieve them. These might be learning a new skill or trying something out of our comfort zone. It also helps to set a time line.

In the long run, the greatest benefit we receive from pursuing our goals is not simply the fulfilling of our dream, but who we become in the process; corny but true – it’s about the journey! Motivational philosopher Jim Rohn once said “You should set a goal big enough that in the process of achieving it, you become someone worth becoming.”


3. Turn Your Dreams Into Goals with an Action Plan

Once you are clear about what you want, write it down and turn each item into something that is measurable. Measurable that is in space and time – how much and by when.

For instance, if you were to tell me that you wanted more money, I might pull out a dollar and give it to you. You then would probably protest, saying “No, I meant lots more money, like £50,000!” But there is no way that one knows how you’d define “more money” unless you state it!

Similarly, your boss, your friends, your partner etc can’t figure out what you want unless you tell them specifically what it is. What exactly do you want and when do you want it by?


4. Work on Your Goals Daily

This is important and easy to forget……..to keep your subconscious mind focused on what you want, read your list of goals often – ideally every day. For an even more powerful approach, close your eyes and focus on each goal and ask yourself, “What is one thing I could do today to move toward the achievement of this goal?” Ponder your answers and take those actions. Little and often. Smalls steps for big change.

When you are feeling unsure, disheartened try to remember that goal setting is a very powerful process for creating your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision (of this future) into reality. The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life!
