There are a number of signs which may indicate you need to build your resilience skills, here are just some to be aware of:
You are struggling to cope with stress.
Emotional regulation, feeling in control and self-compassion are all key elements of strong resilience skills. If you’re finding it increasingly difficult to manage stress, it may be a sign you need to work on building your resilience. Working on improving resilience can also improve your reaction to stress and the way you deal with it.
You are having difficulty making decisions.
If you struggle to make confident decisions when you are stressed or have a lot going on, you may need to work on your resilience. Strong resilience skills can build confidence and help improve decision-making skills, making it easier to make difficult decisions when you need to.
You are struggling with planning and task execution.
When you feel stressed or overwhelmed, it can be difficult to have the clarity needed to plan and execute important tasks both personally and professionally. If you have strong personal and professional resilience skills, it will be easier to organise your thoughts and execute a task effectively.
You are having negative thoughts or feeling overwhelmed.
Effective emotional regulation built through resilience skills can help you cope with any negative thoughts or feelings and an increase in negative thoughts or a feeling of being overwhelmed can be a sign that this emotional regulation needs extra work. Resilience can also help you feel more in control when you feel overwhelmed.
You keep making simple mistakes.
When we’re struggling with our workload and feeling negative, it can be easy for simple mistakes to slip through. A key aspect of resilience is problem solving skills and these can suffer and feed through to our work if our resilience levels are low.
Your self-care routine may be slipping.
As self-compassion is a skill developed through personal resilience, it can lead to better care for yourself and if your self-care routine is slipping, it may be a sign for you to focus on building your resilience. Focusing on your personal routine can build resilience in itself and be a good indication of times where your resilience needs some extra work.
If you spot these signs, then it is time to make some changes! Rest assured there is lots you can do, the key is to start, and to practice daily!
